Lacto-Fresh! Review

Finally after two weeks of diligently using Proud Mary’s lacto-fresh series, I am finally back again with my detailed review on their products but before I start, don’t forget to watch my video review on my facebook page and give it a thumbs up!

Here are the key ingredients (and its proven benefits) found in the toner, emulsion, cream and cleanser respectively.

  1. Lactobacillus Ferment
  2. Lauramidopropyl Betaine
  3. Chrysanthellum Indicum Extract
  4. Boswellia Serrata Resin Extract

  1. Lactobacillus Ferment
  2. Allantoin
  3. Chaenomeles Sinesis (Fruit Extract)
  4. Cinnamon Cassia Bark Extract

  1. Lactobacillus Ferment
  2. Sodium Hyaluronate
  3. Camellia Sinesis Leaf Extract
  4. Diospyros Kaki Leaf Extract

  1. Lactobacillus Ferment
  2. Panthenol (Vitamin B Complex)
  3. Artemisia Princeps Leaf Extract
  4. Shea Butter

As you can see, the constant ingredient expressed is Lactobacillus Ferment. Thus, I have decided to give a detailed explanatory on this particular ingredient.

100% Lactobacillus Fermentation is the process of using a single pure strain of Lactobacillus to ferment with. Lactobacillus is a type of probiotic; in other words,  a “friendly” bacteria. It lives in our digestive, urinary, and genital systems without causing disease; it brings many scientifically-proven health benefits. On the other hand, Lactobacillus Ferment can

  • Smooth dry skin
    • Helps skin retain moisture
  • Minimize redness or rosacea
    • Has soothing properties
  • Slow down aging
    • Fix fine lines and dullness
    • STIMULATES your skin to produce its own anti-aging ingredients e.g. collagen
  • Brighten dull, tired skin
    • Fights off free radicals

Therefore, those with problematic, sensitive, oily and inflammatory skin conditions would benefit well with the LACTO-FRESH series under Proud Mary Derma Cosmetics! Moreover, Proud Mary’s skincare products are renowned for its natural ingredients used based on intense laboratory research and studies. Fret not, it works based on the  animal-cruelty free principal.

Now, let’s head back to the products!

Here is a small extract I have taken from their brochure:

Mel’s Skin Type: Sensitive, normal to dry. Gets a little oily on the nose once in a while.

Day 1 Review

(skipped the cleanser because I forgot about it)

Toner: Feels silky on my skin, moisturizes while it easily absorbs! Environmentally-friendly as there is no need to use cotton due to its unique texture! Hygienic packaging

Emulsion: Light-weighted, translucent, fast-absorbing. Hygienic packaging

Cream: Cooling and soothing, fast-absorbing. It has a water-based texture which when applied onto skin, surprisingly moisturizes well. Has a hydrating effect which leaves skin feeling soft and silky to the touch

Day 7 Review

Thoroughly cleanses my skin although I’d prefer to use it after oil-based makeup removal. Skin feels a little “over-cleansed” if used in the morning. The drying effect is minimal but that is only because my skin tilts more to the dry side!

All products have yet to lead to any side effects or breakouts! In fact, I am getting more and more in love with the toner. Products do not have a strong fragrance. The light scent that comes along seems to indicate the smell of natural ingredients.

Day 14 Review

Skin has generally become more hydrated and adapts to the cleanser. In a way, after a few more usage of the cleanser, my skin does not feel “dry” upon cleansing. It does not really add moisture to my skin but neither does it strip my skin’s moisture too. It cleanses well enough to remove all the dirt and impurities, freshening up my skin and allow its natural inner glow to shine through! Perhaps, it could be due to the increased moisture level of my skin? Especially after using the full range of lacto-fresh series daily.

Here is a detailed process of applying toner, emulsion and cream on my skin, using my wrist as an example. I purposely chose the skin of my wrist as an example due to its “wrinkled” appearance.

After Toner Application
While Applying Emulsion
After Emulsion Application
Cream (color depicted on picture may not be 100% accurate – cream is white like yogurt)
While Applying Cream
After Toner, Emulsion and Cream Application (in sequence)

As you can see, the wrinkles on my wrist significantly diminishes after topical application of toner, emulsion and cream in sequential order!

Not much to talk about the toner and emulsion other than the fact that they are typically easy-absorbing and has yet to lead to any breakouts. One good point is that it makes my skincare routine fast and snappy. Even when times are very busy, I am not motivated to skip a few steps of my usual skincare routine! It does its job to maintain skin’s hydration level but both alone is not sufficient to moisturize my skin fully. Once again, please note that my skin does not stand at the normal to oily/combination range so results may differ on other individuals. Thus, the full range has to be used – which includes the lacto-fresh cream – being the final step.

I would say that it is not as deeply moisturizing as the peptide ampoule cream but sufficient enough to provide a barrier against further moisture loss. Most importantly, it is able to leave my skin silky smooth, soothed and hydrated. I certainly love its cooling effect and have enjoyed lathering it on my skin!

  • Fast-absorbing, time-saving!
  • Freshens up skin to start off the day!
  • Reveals natural skin glow
  • Allows smooth application of makeup
  • Forms barrier against impurities and pollution
  • Retains skin moisture level throughout the day

  • Fast-absorbing, all ready to sleep!
  • Soothes tired and polluted skin after a long day
  • Ensures skin is cooled from long exposure of sun/humidity/dry air conditions
  • Helps skin repair throughout the night
  • Hydrates and replenishes moisture
  • Forms barrier against moisture loss

Final Thoughts:

With its soothing and cooling properties, adding on to its anti-inflammatory and healing nature, the lacto-fresh series is definitely hypoallergenic and will certainly BENEFIT those who suffer from inflammatory and sensitive skin conditions such as severe acne, eczema, etc. Redness of the skin slowly diminishes and can already be felt and seen from first application. This is due to its fast-absorbing nature and soothing effect. Oily skin conditions will BENEFIT as products do not feel heavy or greasy on the skin.

The root cause to oily skin is that the inner layers tend to be dehydrated. Thus, the skin secretes sebum to form a protective barrier against further moisture loss

Therefore, with lacto-fresh cleanser, sebum and impurities will be cleansed off without stripping the skin’s natural moisture. pH of the skin is being re-balanced and will soon find back its natural glow. Fast-absorbing toner and emulsion prepares skin to receive moisture with its light formula. Applying the cream will allow the inner layers to receive sufficient moisture and this will signal the skin to reduce production level of sebum. Product series will suit teenagers and young adults more than those with matured skin. People in this age range who suffers from dry skin condition will also BENEFIT from its natural healing properties and hydrating effect.

As for me, I’d prefer to use the lacto-fresh series during the day and another form during the night. Once again, should you be suffering from inflammatory skin conditions, I would personally recommend that you do not skip night usage due to its soothing and healing properties!

Overall Rating:

Cleanser: 7/10

Toner: 10/10

Emulsion: 9/10

Cream: 10/10

Would I purchase it once when I am done with the products? YES!
